Riverstown Cross has been home to a veterinary practice since 1965, a time when Glanmire was a quaint village near Cork city and farming dominated the area. The practice originally catered to the needs of farm animals, reflecting the rural roots of the community. In the late 1970s, the practice expanded its reach, opening a small animal clinic in Cobh at 38 Harbour Row to provide dedicated care for pets in the area.
Since 1983, P.J. O’Driscoll and Bill Cashman have been the driving forces behind this mixed practice, serving a diverse range of animals with expertise and dedication. Their partnership brought a balance of experience and innovation to the veterinary services offered, earning the trust of clients over the decades.
The practice underwent a significant transformation following P.J. O’Driscoll’s retirement and the arrival of Gene Cashman from Vancouver in late 2019. With Gene’s expertise and a shift in focus, the practice transitioned to exclusively serve companion animals, adapting to the changing needs of the community. Today, it continues to provide high-quality, compassionate care for pets, maintaining its long-standing reputation while embracing a modern, pet-focused approach to veterinary medicine.
